Friday five

1. What brought you the most joy in 2025? If your answer this year is the same as it would have been last year, what brought you the second-most joy in 2025? Curti, going to Santa Fe in May, etc
2. What’s the best discovery you made in 2025? The song "Where Did You Sleep Last Night," Curti, the game Neko Atsume 2, etc
3. What’s the best feel-good story of 2025? The cat that was rescued after the Palisades Fire (since the fire, I keep seeing the word "Palisade"..weird lol). I definitely donated to the "get well" fund! Everything else has just been so negative :(
4. What was your best small win in 2025? If it’s the same as your answer to # 5 last week, what’s next on the list? Being able to say "have a good day!" to customers at work..out of nowhere I was able to say it. It gives good feelings to both me and the customers!
5. What was the kindest thing a stranger did for you in 2025? Hmm..maybe holding a door open for me? I'm too tired to think too deeply haha

This week was work's Christmas party..for some reason it was in the morning, so we wore pajamas and had breakfast (pancakes, eggs, etc). Like last year we did stocking stuffers, which was cool. They also brought cookies to decorate, but me and Juella had to leave to open the bookstore..still fun though! I have one more day of work and then I'm off until January 2. I definitely need a break, I'm so tired haha. The store has been busy though, yay! Lucie said she hired a new manager, who will start January 7th! I hope she's nice lol

Silver star.

You are still my ideal.
I hope to find you one day
Under the street lamp,
In the dark of the night,
Casting moonlight through the harsh glow
Of this damned city.

I hope to find you,
Silver star in the black swathe
That has swallowed me whole for so long,
Scent of petrichor and patience
Standing at my side,
Hearts beating at the same pace.

A white umbrella, a steady hand,
A chaste kiss, a quiet release.
You are all I want.

Oh hi, Mark.

Watched The Room last night with my housemate at the local independent theatre. A hilarious movie, especially since it isn't trying to be that. It takes itself so seriously that it ends up being the Citizen Kane of "so bad it's good". My housemate loved it - we both quoted all the iconic lines. We stopped at the gas station on our way home and got candy, just like old times when we'd live a walk away from the gas station, back when we started living together.

Last night had this sense of idyllic peace: a moment captured in a clear plastic pouch, filled with seashells and blue water and floating sparkles. You shake it, and it's full of life. Fullness. Fluidity. Fresh starts.

I'm updating this post to share some highlights of today, further proving that this December, leading into the new year, is shaping up to be my year.

After a tasty and cheap lunch special at a quiet Asian restaurant, where I randomly talked to a woman next to me about anime for 10 minutes (deeply regret not catching her name or Instagram, but still a great moment), I got my housemate's Christmas present as well as an amazing Oreo mousse Nutella overload bubble tea; Jesus, it was death by chocolate. While drinking it, I complimented a woman sitting next to me for her hair; it really shone a lovely colour in the light. I have to share this newfound radiance within me with others, is my philosophy, through little gestures like this.

Got new shoes for a great price and in the style I've been looking for to complete my new outfit, which I must say, suits me very much. All of my wardrobe is thrifted pieces, these days.
Almost forgot, the face masks I bought from the drugstore which, to my surprise and delight, were 3-for-2 when I brought them to the cashier. Put one on earlier, some hydrating marula and cocoa butter mud mix. Smelled so good.

Speaking of things that smell good, I just set a wax melt up; "Festive Spice" scent. I have half a mind to buy more wax melts from the brand. I also bought some perfumes online a few hours ago. You might think, "wow, she's a big spender", but it really is just today. I'm normally quite frugal - the thrifted clothes and Cup Noodle containers acting as pen holders prove it. I find ways to save; my recent skincare purchases were all through loyalty points. It's also worth noting that the perfumes are "inspired by" dupes, copying popular scents for a fraction of the price, and they were running a Christmas promo (I got 2 100ml perfumes inspired by Burberry Goddess and Mugler's Alien, and got a free 30ml Eilish dupe). So even on my more expensive days, I look for the best deals. I'll go back to zero-spend days this coming week, so have no fear, poor purse of mine!

Today was awesome. A natural smile fell upon my cheeks for most of it. My life is a little clear plastic pouch, full of shimmer and bursting with brightness.

Yay!

It rained a little tonight, the wax melt smells lovely, I'm in bed and still glowing in the great results of my stream.

It was an excellent stream indeed! Reached 50 subs!
Feeling pumped and ready to stream again this Thursday.

Oh, and my package should arrive tomorrow. I'll get it on my way to collect my meds.

I think the days are slowly getting better for me!

Simple things.

I love my quiet life
Of wax melts and writing club
Of coming home to my cat and watering my plant
After my office job in the city
While my latest CD plays on the radio
While soft cream settles on my cheeks
With big plans for the next year
And a full heart beating under warm blankets
I love being a young woman
With her whole life ahead of her.

Feeling festive.

I bought so many things yesterday, it's crazy.
Wax melts, an oil burner, honey, blueberry jam, fudge (one for me, one for dad), some stuff in the fridge, a little Christmas candle.

The wax melts smell so good - broke off a piece of the Santa's Cookies to melt last night. The scent is still next to me because the burner's on the desk, it's nice and sweet!

Blue jeans.

Thrifted nice jeans and a pretty white blouse for $4.15 total. The jeans were so cheap, just over a dollar. Too bad they are just a size too small! I squeezed into them in hopes of stretching them out; I think it worked a little bit.

I'm unreasonably excited for more markets tomorrow. My father and I are planning to visit 2 local Christmas gift fairs. I want to surprise him with a funny little candlelight that scatters shapes and sparkles all over the room when one puts a tealight candle inside; we've seen it once or twice for sale at other markets and he's always been taken by the sight of it. I have some tealights at home, so we can set it up quickly! As for me, I want soap. I always want soap. Maybe some accessories or funny ornaments, too.

I rested for the rest of the day and visited my neighbour for mince pies and coffee and chats. Right now, just cuddling the cat while a new CD plays. I've taken, like, half an hour every night to just space out and not focus on any sort of task or device or background noise, just sitting there, letting boredom take over. I've been liking it. The stomach aches weren't so bad today.

Friday five

1. At work or school, what tasks do (or did) you find strenuous, while everyone seemed to find them easy? Math, sports in PE, calling people on the phone, etc
2. Do you prefer difficult tasks that don’t take long, or easy tasks that take hours? Easy tasks (if I'm enjoying them, anyway)
3. What are the ideal conditions for doing your work (defined however you want) best? Knowing what I'm doing and being comfortable with it, and can do work without someone constantly watching me; supportive coworkers; etc
4. What kinds of tasks have you performed under the “other duties as needed” part of the job description? Trying to chip ice off the sidewalk (ugh), moving the bookstore location this summer (ughhh), etc
5. What other duties as needed are likely to fall to you in your personal life this week? Laundry, and I should probably neaten up my apartment haha. Maybe getting presents ready for Christmas too

It's been COLD this week, in the -20s and probably -30s in some places. It hurts to breathe when it's that cold! It was expected to warm up (-1, much better!) and snow overnight and today, but I was surprised by how MUCH snow I woke up to. We probably got at least a foot! It was kinda fun to walk in because it's light and fluffy. The Literacy Council and bookstore closed early because the visibilty was poor and Lucie wanted to make sure there was enough light for everyone to get home safely. Tomorrow it'll drop to -14 and next week will be in the -20s and -30s again..ugh. I'm sure Bill is glad he has a car now haha

Moonflower heart.

The storm rages in sharp violet streaks
Of violence, still black screen shadows
Surrendering the earth to your onslaught
Honed precision, sword aligned

As it strikes, a crack, then the fall
Heaven opens from silver-blue sky
The war will end soon, but not for you
Your arm, it gleams, ready as ever

All run and hide at your harsh gaze
Your tempered edge, your tempest tone
All run past the powdered scent
Of purple stems reaching out for touch

I wait there for you in the field
Kissed by the rain you bless me with
Your softness drips along my skin
And into your blooming moonflower heart

Chipped my nail.

Potential diagnosis of Crohn's disease. As if I needed that to end the year off with! Well, we'll wait for the biopsy. I'm very tired. The preparation for the scope was exhausting. I just want to sleep for a while. My skin's been looking great lately, at least. My stomach, not so much.

I'm hoping to write something tonight. There are 2 choices for what I can do tomorrow, Saturday:
  1. Thrift market
  2. Crochet meetup
The crochet meetup will take a lot out of me, since I have to travel. I'm really low after all these procedures, so maybe I should keep it manageable. Then again, the thrift market will be more expensive. I don't *have* to spend money at it, though - but I *will* spend more money and time getting to the crochet group. I'll think about it tonight.

Thursday and Wednesday afternoon and evening, I just remained in bed. You have no idea how tired I am.

Movies

I went to the movies tonight, by myself, and it cost me about $35.

That was the price of the ticket, a large drink and a small popcorn.

I'm sorry, but that price is just ridiculous.

Movie theaters really need to change their business model if they want to survive. Because, honestly? That price was just not worth the movie going experience.

Worst Jouney Terror Camp Teaser

There's a guy on Patreon who has been filming Cherry, Birdie and Wilson's Cape Crozier expedition (he's also writing a book!), and he just released a teaser trailer for part of the film:

OMG YESSS it looks SO good!!! (Poor Cherry and his frozen glasses haha.) I can't wait to watch the finished product! Thanks for keeping their memories alive! :D

Mom and I saw Wicked: For Good yesterday, and the first movie was definitely better. There were scenes where the characters were just..staring (either at something in the scene or at other characters) for like, 30 seconds, and the songs were so tedious! At least I was able to get my popcorn craving satisfied. :P I'm excited to see Project Hail Mary, I really liked the book!

Cats: The Blogpost

My roommate/landlord, Lance, had four cats when I moved in over a year ago: Nick, Harvey, Clint and Junior.

Sadly, Nick was killed by a band of dogs roving the neighborhood.

Junior, who was an outdoor cat, simply vanished one day. I hope he's still alive somewhere, and happy wherever he is.

After Nick was killed, Lance got a kitten named Roma a.k.a. Devil-Child a.k.a. Little Bit a.k.a. 'You little shit!' She has made life in the house "interesting." Especially for poor Clint, whom she views as her personal toy.

This morning, Lance helped rescue an abandoned cat from a tree. It had been left behind by its owners and got itself stuck. He and a neighborhood lady called the Fire Department to rescue the cat. Once they got it down, they sort of dumped it on Lance.

So, to make a long story short, Lance now has four cats again. Heh.

I haven't met the new one but Lance says he is super chill. Apparently, his previous owners had a ton of dogs and cats. We'll have to see how he gets along with the others.

Oh! And he's not fixed either. Neither is Roma. Anyone wanna bet Lance is gonna be a cat-grandaddy in the future? LOL!
